I almost did it again
Many of you may not believe this, but I once lived in Atlanta. That is something that I try to forget. I guess being fresh married to my first wife of 54 years, and having our first child should have been a great time, and it was, but knowing me, the call of Colquitt was ever there.

Lot of truth in aphorisms
Aphorism: a short, pointed sentence expressing a wise or clever observation or a general truth. 1. The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow. 2. Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail. 3. If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably don't have any sense at all.

Rubbing it in by
Athens, Ga. — University of Georgia supporters are enraged after learning that a wealthy University of Alabama fan plans to build what many are calling an “insensitive and inflammatory” statue on Broad Street directly across from the famed University of Georgia Arches.

Letters to the Editor
Terry, Charles and I really enjoyed this, especially, as we celebrate the life of my g-g-grandfather, Joshua B. Everett, on Saturday. Charles had two brothers in Vietnam and one in Japan on stand by. Donald was injured and was flown home with just the medical crew to Brook General Hospital. Richard was a medic and saw many horrors. Pete worked as a military supply clerk.

Favorite People
Is there anything more peaceful than a quiet morning in the mountains? I am sitting on the porch of Janet and Don’s cabin in Blue Ridge waiting for Janet to get dressed. The sun lies in ribbons across the creek, which slides silently by in front of me but gets rambunctious just downstream. I can hear it.

TALK TO THE MAYOR
This is the toughest column I’ve ever had to write, but it’s one I need to do. The past couple of years have been hard on this community. We’ve lost a lot of good people, people that defined Colquitt for the great town it is. Four weeks ago, this hit extra close to home. My mother passed away.

As You See It
•I am glad they dedicated the season to Coach McNease. I wonder how long it will be before the BOE pulls the plug on it like they did the honor for Mr. David Richardson? • Now I wouldn’t call our county commissioners evil! That would be an insult to all the truly evil in the world!

A small cross-A big message
When driving to, from, and through Frankenmuth, Michigan, I'm always intrigued with the many small simple crosses in the front yards of the homes we pass by. Those crosses are a statement of support for Frankenmuth's Christian foundation.

Obama's faith?
I don't mean this to be disparaging, but with Barack Obama we are witnessing the most unconventional faith profile of a president in arguably 200 years. The assessment we're getting from a curious public is not a crass misperception by a bunch of intolerants, but, rather, natural puzzlement.

'Cordoba House' sign of Islamic conquest
There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia. The time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over.
